Prefer trains over planes? Siemens Mobility makes the choice easy. With the update to its Velaro Novo high-speed train, our client is set to lead the way in the U.S. market with greater sustainability, cost-effectiveness, and comfort. First stop: Innotrans in Berlin. At the international mobility trade fair, Siemens Mobility presented all the features of its latest project—and we provided the perfect tool for the job: an AR app that, when used with an iPad and a physical model, displays all the train’s features in 3D.
The Exhibit: Electrifyingly Simple Information
To create an eye-catching trade show presentation, we combined a physical train model with augmented reality—integrated into an app for iPadOS. Visitors simply held the tablet over the train model and clicked on interactive hotspots to open one animated 3D object after another. Enhanced with easy-to-understand information, trade show attendees were able to explore each feature in a compelling way. Implemented with an easily configurable and user-friendly app that requires virtually no supervision at trade shows.
The visualizations: Animated in 3D, evoking emotion throughout the entire journey
The seating layout: extremely flexible. The cars: wider than ever. Boarding: barrier-free via a retractable platform. To help industry professionals understand all the features and use cases of the Velaro Novo, we brought them to life through a variety of 3D animations. We handled the coordination, storyboarding, and transformation of all technical product data into easily digestible content—accessible no matter where you are.
The App: Maximum functionality in a compact design
We used augmented reality to transform a physical train model into a world of possibilities. Our AR app served as the foundation. We programmed it for iPadOS, integrated all the 3D animations, and placed the markers for the interactive hotspots. We then installed the complete package on the iPads—getting them ready for the big trade show debut.
Next stop: Project expansion
Together with Siemens Mobility, we are scaling up the project to make it even more impactful—for example, by displaying it on large screens. This allows groups of visitors to discover the new possibilities together and discuss them. Our app can be expanded at any time with additional features, designs, and updates—or adapted for use on other trains. We are also planning a version that does not require a physical train model, integrating it into the app as a 3D model instead.
